Update: One dead following an explosion at Romgaz gas extraction well in Harghita County

An explosion occurred on Friday at ‘25 Chedea’ gas extraction well, belonging to Romgaz, in Harghita County, which was not followed by fire. One person has died, several fire-fighters teams have arrived at the site.
The Romgaz Mediaş employee, who was seriously injured on Friday, has died hours after the incident.
“The injured person was declared deceased by the County Ambulance Service,” ISU Harghita informs.
The 49-year-old man was due to reach the County Emergency Clinical Hospital in Târgu Mureş, but his health deteriorated and died. He entered cardio-respiratory arrest, doctors tried to resuscitate him unsuccessfully.
The Harghita Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) representatives have announced on Friday the explosion near Cechesti locality, digi24.ro informs.
Several fire-fighters teams from the Odorhei Detachment and an ambulance have arrived at the site.
A SMURD helicopter was also requested on the site, but due to weather conditions it could not intervene.
The Energy Minister’s Control Body is on its way to Mediaş to clarify the circumstances in which the Friday incident in Harghita occurred, following which a Romgaz employee lost his life, according to a post on the ministry’s Facebook page.
