Rail traffic was completely blocked Wednesday morning near Ploiesti (60 km north of Bucharest), ahead of West Railway Station (Ploiesti Vest), after a heavy metallic 4 tons and 15-meter-long metal bridge, through which a water pipe passed, has collapsed on the railways.
“CFR informs that the railway traffic by Ploiesti Vest station is stopped at this hour because of a crash of a metal bridge through which a city water pipe passes over the railway,” the company said in a release. After the incident, there are no victims. 6 passenger trains were temporarily blocked. The electrical cables were broken.
Later in the day, CFR SA has informed that the rail traffic has been partially resumed s for Brazi-Ploiesti-Buda with diesel locomotives attached to the trains scheduled according to the CFR programme.
The Railway Transport Police has opened a criminal file in this case, realitatea.net informs.
According to the spokesman of the Prahova Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU), Raluca Vasiloae, the metallic bridge supported several pipelines that are part of the Ploiesti district heating network and fell over the railways.
As the bridge collapsed, no railway linings, nor people, passed through the area.
