A Venice Commission delegation will arrive in Romania this week in order to discuss with Romanian authorities in the field of justice about the amendments on the laws of justice and the ruling coalition’s intention to amend the criminal codes.
The delegation with have talks also on the setting up of the Special section for investigating magistrates (SIIJ) and on the pending amendments planned by PSD-ALDE of the criminal codes, ziare.com informs.
The Venice Commission representatives will discuss with the Justice Ministry’s representatives, of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court), of the Prosecutor’s Office upon the ICCJ, of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) and of the SIIJ.
PNL Chairman Ludovic Orban announced on March 6 that the Monitoring Committee representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will notify the Venice Commission regarding the amendments made by the Government on the laws of justice without public consultations and without observing the opinion of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM).
The PACE demarche came following the request filed in March by the PNL in regard to the emergency ordinance establishing the SIIJ.
