The Venice Commission has announced that it will issue an opinion on the provisions of Emergency Ordinance 7/2019, amending the Laws of Justice, which triggered dozens of protests in the magistracy, on June 19, informs the website of the institution.

The Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has requested the Venice Commission for this law at the request of the Romanian Judges Forum (FJR) and the National Liberal Party (PNL), ziare.com informs.

Following public pressure and criticism of magistrates’ associates, the Government abrogated part of GEO 7/2019 by another ordinance. However, there were plenty of controversial provisions in the normative act, including two articles on the functioning of the Criminal Investigation Section, known as the Special Section for Investigating Magistrates.
