Where did the oldest Romanian in Diaspora cast his vote?

A 95-year old Romanian, a war veteran, cast his vote in Sunday’s general elections. Despite his age, he insisted on going to the polls and cast his vote, while pledging to also vote in the next ballot.

Laurentiu Marginean is living in Turin, Italy with his daughter who settled down here 30 years ago.

“He is a model for everyone. He is a war veteran, parachute jumper from the first Romanian military paratroopers in 1941 and the only who is still alive,” says his daughter Adelina Sonia Marginean.

Laurențiu Mărginean says it has been no huge effort to come to the polling station, but it has been rather a civic duty. He loves living in Italy, but he cannot forget Romania.

His presence at the polling station stirred the admiration of the other voters who said that his move should set the other who didn’t vote wondering.

Around 120,000 Romanians are settled down in Turin region, but only 2,000 of them have actually cast their vote.

According to the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the vote in Diaspora for the general elections ended on Monday morning at 7 a.m., local hour, when the last polling stations in the USA and Canada were closed down. More precisely, Romanians living in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Sacramento, Las Vegas and Vancouver (Canada) voted the last due to the time zone differences.

Overall, 106,038 voters went to polls in 417 polling stations set up abroad.
