The General Assembly of the Romanian National Red Cross Society has convened on Friday in Brasov and elected Princess Margareta of the Romanian Royal House as president of the society. The Princess has got 75 votes, while her contender union leader Dumitru Costin got only 11 votes, Agerpres informs.
“Thank you so much for your trust and not just for that, because this decision closes a circle and heals a wound. You offered me the position my great-grandmother, Queen Maria has also held. I’ll do my utmost to be a good president and take the Red Cross further. Thank you from all my heart, and good luck with your work,” Princess Margareta said in her address to the applause of the audience, after her predecessor Mihaela Geoana, who served two terms at the helm of the Red Cross Society, passed on the baton to her.
