Wide celebrations to mark King Michael’s 95th anniversary

King Michael I of Romania will turn 95 on October 25, with the Royal House releasing the schedule of the events marking the anniversary. The events will take place in Bucharest and Sinaia from October 20 to October 28, ranging from a radio play written by late Queen Anne and King Michael in the 60s, photo exhibitions at Pelisor Castle, to decoration ceremonies, a gala concert, book launchings and so on.

The king will celebrate his 96th anniversary at his private residence in Switzerland with Princess Elena and Princess Sofia.

The radio play’s preview is due at the Radio Hall on October 20 (60-64 General Berthelot street), at 12:00hrs, in the presence of Prince Maria.

The play will be broadcast at Radio Romania Actualitati on October 25 at 23:05.

A photo exhibition “King Michael, happy childhood” will be varnished at Pelisor Castle on October 24, as of 14:30hrs, with Prince Radu attending. The exhibition comprises original photos depicting the king’s childhood, originating from three important collections: the family collection owned by famous inter-war photo journalists Iosif Berman, the Royal House archive and the Romanian Academy Library.

The Peles Castle will host an awarding ceremony also on Monday 24, at 16:00hrs. The Crown Princess Margareta will decorate several personalities and king’s collaborators from Romania and abroad. Prince Radu and Princess Maria will also attend. The ceremony will be followed by a reception at 17:00hrs.

While King Michael will celebrate its 95th birthday at his private residence in Switzerland on October 25 together with two of his daughters, Princess Elena and Princess Sofia, in Romania a gala concert is scheduled at the Romanian Athenaeum on the same day, at 18:00hrs.

Crown Princess Margareta and Prince Radu will host a new edition of the annual benefit night organized by Princess Margareta of Romania Foundation. The funds raised following the concert will be directed to the Young Talents Programme granting scholarships to young artists in need.

In the opening, Crown Princess Margareta will read the message on the King Michael’s 95th anniversary.

The concert is performed by violinist Roman Kim, next to the Margareta Foundation orchestra, conducted by Tiberiu Soare. After the concert, an exhibition of the scholars joining the Young Talents programme will go on display in the lobby of the Athenaeum.

A night dedicated to King Michael will take place at Cotroceni Palace on the same day of October 25, at 19:00hrs. The Cherchez Hall of the Presidential Palace will host a book launch “The royal year” released at Adenium Publishing House. The guests will watch the “King’s War” film by John Floresc, after the book launching.

A public presentation of the stamp album “Engines, the royal passion” by Romfilatelia is due at “Carol I” Central University Library on October 27, at 17:00hrs. Crown Princess and Prince Radu will attend the event, with the Royal Choir also performing.

A royal visit to the “Mihai I’ Technical Railway College in Bucharest is scheduled on October 28, at 11:30hrs. Princess Maria will visit the college to offer it the bust of King Michael made by sculptor Valentin Tanase and to award the winners of a history and sports contest “The King’s Cup”.
