Woman raped in Bucharest by backslider who had been released from prison on law 169
A man has been arrested in Bucharest under the charge of raping and robbing a woman on Calea Mosilor, a major avenue of the Capital. The incident occurred three days after he had been released from prison after the law 169 on the compensatory appeal had come into force. The man had stayed behind bars for rape for 9 years. Local media reported that he had been sentenced to prison in 2008 for raping a 13-year-old girl.
The Prosecutor’s Office upon the District 2 Court in Bucharest informed that on October 22, around 3 a.m. the defendant had forced the victim to have sex and oral sex and also had stolen her mobile phone and RON 50.
Prosecutors said the man had been sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2008 for rape and had been released on October 19, as he benefitted of the provisions of the Law 169/2017 on the compensatory appeal, which stipulated the jail time can be cut by 6 days for every 30 days spent in detention in inappropriate conditions.
The backslider has been arrested for 30 days on November 1 for rape and grand larceny.
During October 19-23, nearly 530 detainees have been released after the law enforcement and their number is expected to grow.
