‘Ars Amandi. Love theme in the European Art of 16th and 19th centuries’
The National Gallery of the Romanian National Art Museum hosts on Thursday, ‘Ars Amandi. Love theme in the European Art of 16th and 19th centuries ‘, informs the Museum Press Office.
The exhibition includes a selection of 73 works by Italian, French, German and Dutch artists (painting, drawing and engraving) of The Brukenthal National Museum, Sibiu and of the Romanian Academy Library – The Print Cabinet.
The exhibit is structured in four sections, as a journey through ‘love’.
First section: ‘The Mythology of Love’ – illustrates different presentations of Venus, customized and embedded in various narrative compositions, from erotic intrigues to motherhood.
Second section: ‘Love in the Universe of Letters’, analyses the way love is spoken in antic, renaissance and post-renaissance literature.
As a follow-up to the previous section, ‘(Un) sacred Love’ speaks about the sacred love in the European culture, from a Christian point of view.
The last section of the exhibition, ‘Allegories and symbols’ includes allusive, complementary images to the theme of love.
The exhibition will follow a series of events, such as educational programs and workshops for families and teenagers, visits and conferences.
The entrance to the fee is made only by invitation, based on previous reservation to [email protected] or 0213148119.
The exhibition opens until 29 March 2015.
