Artists from 12 countries featuring at European Comics Salon
The fourth edition of the European Comics Salon kicks off on Thursday, October 16 at the National Museum of Contemporary Art. Until November 2, Austria, Portugal, Greece, Spain, Czech Republic, Poland, France, Hungary, Wallonia-Brussels, Germany, Belgium and Romania will display comics, cartoons and satirical graphics exhibitions. Comics’ fans are also invited to meet the guest artists and curators, to take part in discussions, presentations and workshops, to watch animation movies, to browse albums and magazines and to buy the latest comics titles. 10 Romanian artists will exhibit a collage of comics, sketches, animations and character drawings.
“The best cartoons in the world – Cartoons against monotony” section will be in this year’s limelight. 25 best works from 26 countries awarded at the World Press Cartoon Festival will be displayed now in Bucharest, with the help of the Portugal Embassy to Romania and Camões, Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua. The audience will enjoy cartoons by Polish Pawel Kuczynski, German Rainer Ehrt, Romanian Constantine Pavel or Russian Zlatowsky who sparklingly illustrate the social, political and economic current affairs. World Press Cartoon curator and manager, Rui Paulo da Cruz will be also present in Bucharest on Friday, October 17, 6.30 p.m. to story tell about how colors and fine pencils can chase monotony away.
Do not miss the workshops presented by Mawil (Germany), Ileana Surducan, Maria Surducan and Mihai Marcu (Romania), and authors Sara Olausson and Joanna Hellgren (Sweden).
World Press Cartoon is a benchmark press cartoon and satirical graphics salon. Inspired by World Press Photo Contest, WPC was set up in Portugal in 2005 to make up for the cartoon professionals who don’t mostly gain the appropriate recognition.
