Baby Yoda will have his own movie in the Star Wars franchise

The character Baby Yoda, who in recent years has become an interplanetary mascot in the “Star Wars” universe thanks to the “The Mandalorian” series, will soon have a dedicated film within this film franchise, Lucasfilm company representatives announced on Tuesday, AFP informs.

The upcoming feature film will be directed by Jon Favreau, the creator, main screenwriter and one of the executive directors of the series “The Mandalorian”. In this TV series, viewers followed the adventures of a mysterious bounty hunter, Din Djarin, who is tasked with delivering a small green creature called Grogu to a sinister client, with whom he befriends.

With his oversized pointed ears and adorable big black eyes, the little alien, who belongs to the same species as Grand Master Yoda from the original “Star Wars” films, quickly won over fans worldwide of the famous franchise, who they were quick to rename him and call him “Baby Yoda”. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting,” Jon Favreau said in a statement.

It is not yet known if the actor Pedro Pascal, who played the Mandalorian character in the series of the same name, will resume the role of this bounty hunter in the upcoming film.

Also, the feature film announced on Tuesday does not yet have an official release date.

The most recent cinematic adventure released within the “Star Wars” franchise dates back to 2019: it is the film “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, which grossed more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, in despite some unfavorable chronicles. Since then, several films have been announced, but it is not known if these projects will materialize.

Productions initially entrusted to Kevin Feige – who comes from the Marvel universe – and Patty Jenkins (director of the film “Wonder Woman”) were discreetly put on hold.
