The best selling Romania visual artist, painter Adrian Ghenie is donating one of his works for the “Wisdom of the Earth” sculpture by famous Constatin Brancusi, which is subject to a national subscription campaign. The announcement was made on the Facebook page of the Culture minister Corina Suteu.
As a matter of fact, it was the Culture minister who invited the Romanian artist to join the campaign. The money obtained from the sale of the painting donated by Ghenie will get to the accounts opened to buy the famous sculpture from its owners.
For now, the authorities managed to raise less over EUR 361,000, meaning only 6 percent of the needed sum.
Adrian Ghenie is the best selling Romanian artist of the last decades. More of his works have been recently sold for several million euros at the auction houses.
The campaign to support the national subscription to buy Brancusi’s ‘Wisdom of the Earth’ launched by the government will run until September 30. Six million euros must be raised to pay off the sculpture from its current owners.
PM Dacian Ciolos donated his April salary for the fund-raising campaign launched by the Romanian state to buy Constantin Brâncuși’s ‘Wisdom of the Earth’ sculpture.
Several ministers and public figures also made donations.
