„Breaking News”, in Romanian theaters as of September 29

Freshly awarded at Karlovy Vary film festival, where it has been released for the first time, Breaking News, directed by Romanian female filmmaker Iulia Rugină, will reach the Romanian theaters as of September 29.

Actor Andi Vasluianu tops the bill, telling the story of a journalist forced to make an in memoriam feature after the tragic death of his cameraman, next to teenage girl Voica Oltean, awarded the special mention of the jury at Karlovy Vary for her first cinema role, at only 15 years old. Variety has praised her performance as „impressive”.

„Breaking News is Iulia Rugină’s third feature film, after the success of Love Building (2013) and the sequel Alt Love Building (2014).

After the tragic death of his cameramen during a shooting, journalist Alex Mazilu is sent to make an in memoriam feature about his life. Three days before Christmas, in a town on the Black Sea shore, the journalist tries to recast his colleague’s life through the eyes of his daughter, relatives and friends.

The film is calling, among others, on a talk about what a man’s life means and about how the mass media is trying to cover such a delicate topic, like a man’s death, according to Cineuropa.org.

The movie is a co-production of Hai-Hui Entertainmentand Libra Film Productions. Tudor Giurgiu, Oana Giurgiu and Bogdan Crăciun are the producers.

Breaking News is distributed in Romania by Transilvania Film.
