On Romania’s National Day, Bucharest National Opera invites the audience to a special meeting with Romanian creators of lyrical art, contemporary art and symphonic music on Monday, December 1, from 19:00.

On November 30, viewers can watch a triptych that rounds up valuable but less nationally known  works: the opera performance, ‘A Stormy Night’, by Paul Constantinescu, the symphonic ensemble, ‘Three Romanian Dances’, by Theodor Rogalski and contemporary dance performance ‘Tango’, by Edward Clug.

Composer Paul Constantinescu is one of the most notable exponents of national music school. Author of reference music works, he approached numerous genres and musical forms from instrumental music to film music. Among them, the comic opera in two acts, ‘A Stormy Night’ written on a libretto and inspired by the homonymous play by I.L. Caragiale gets a memorable place, being a real success even from its premiere in 1935. The most recent mise en scène for the play, presented in the ‘Romanian Creations Evening’ bears the signature of director Catalina Buzoianu, scenography by Viorica Petrovici.

Theodor Rogalski, composer, conductor, orchestrator and pianist was born in Bucharest and died in Zurich at the age of 53. He studied composition at the Bucharest and Leipzig conservatoires and at the Schola Cantorum in Paris (1923-1926) with Vincent d’Indy, and orchestration with Maurice Ravel. ‘Three Romanian Dances’ (composed in 1950) – ‘Dance from Transylvania’ (‘Joc din Ardeal’), ‘Gaida’ and ‘Hora from Muntenia’ will be interpreted in the event dedicated to Romania’s National Day by The Bucharest National Opera House Orchestra under the wand of Rasvan Cernat who will also conduct ‘A Stormy Night’.

Edward Clug is one of the most renowned Romanian choreographers in the field of contemporary ballet. He received his ballet training at the National Ballet School in Cluj-Napoca, graduating in 1991 and the same year he joined the Slovene National Theatre in Maribor, as a Principal Dancer. In 2003 he was appointed Artistic Director of Slovene National Theatre in Maribor where staged important performances for companies like Croatian National Ballet in Zagreb, Stuttgart Ballet (Germany), Zürich Ballet ( Switzerland), Graz Ballet ( Austria) , National Ballet of Portugal, ‘Eyes, International Ballet ( Japan), etc. His first full evening ballet, Tango, premiered at Slovene National Theater in 1998 when he was only 23 years old. ‘Tango’ premiered in Romania at the Romanian National Opera in 2010.

‘Romania’s National Day is another occasion to make a step forward in regaining our local values that blossomed and got appreciation mostly abroad. It’s time to let these artists express themselves in terms of honor also on the national level’, said Razvan Ioan Dinca, general manager of Bucharest National Opera for Mediafax.
