“Citizenfour” about Edward Snowden, screened for the first time in Romania

“Citizenfour” Oscar winner last year the film, telling the story of Edward Snowden, will be screened for the first time in Romania, in the opening of Open Documentary Session 6 in Timisoara on Thursday.

The film directed by Laura Poitras and made by HBO Films, Participant Media and Praxis Films, presents the tensed days that Snowden, a former employee with the National Security Agency, lived in a hotel in Hong Kong, also capturing the meetings with the journalists who released information about NSA and electronic espionage in the US. Snowden has released tens of thousands of secret documents.

The opening action is due on Thursday, May 26, at 8 p.m. at Ambasada, 2Anton Seiller street. “Citizenfour” executive producer is Steven Soderbergh.

TRANSMEDIA EXPRESS event is taking place further on Friday, May 27 (starting 4 p.m.) and Saturday, May 28 (10 a.m.), bringing together documentary film producers and authors and IT experts to find new means of communication in “the storytelling in the digital age”. Ludo Hekman, creative producer at Butch & Sundance from the Netherlands will present the interactive productions, game-documentary and web-documentary sessions, while debating the trends in the field next to other experts. Participants will be able to enter the virtual world with the help of HTC Vice headset and to test several documentary productions for the new media.
