50 embassies, cultural institutes and international organizations attend the upcoming Embassies’ Festival

The first edition of the Embassies’ Festival, inviting the audience to open their culture and to join a journey around the world from their own city is kicking off in the first day of September. For five days, until September 5, 50 embassies, cultural institutes and international organizations will display their cultural offer, promoting the cultural diversity and the art of the the foreign countries having diplomatic missions in Romania. The festival, an unique concept in the Romanian cultural landscape, will also contribute to enhancing Bucharest’s prestige and attraction.

So, Romania’s National Library, The Youth Park-Children’s World, Studio Cinema and Galateca art Gallery will host exquisite cultural and art events such as visual art exhibitions (photography, movie screenings, sculpture), gastronomic demonstrantions and tastings, music and dance performances, handicraft and customs events from all over the world, moments for children and cultural diplomacy activities, ESCU Association informs in a press release.

Among the participant countries, embassies and institutions there are South Africa, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, The Information Bureau of the European Parliament in Romania, Chile, China and Confucius Institute, Cyprus, South Korea, Cuba, Wallonia-Brussels Delegation, El Salvador, the United Arab Emirates, India and Rabindranath Tagore Cultural Center, Indonesia and the Indonesian Cultural Center, Jordan, Ireland, Japan and the “Angela Hondru” Romanian –Japanese Studies Center, Malaysia, Great Britain and the British Council, Morocco, Mexico, the International Organization of Francophony, the International Organization for Migration, Pakistan, Palestine, Peru, The European Commission Representation in Romania, Russia and the Russian Center of Science and Culture, Syria, Spain, the United States of America, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Hungary, Uruguay, Venezuela, the Romanian Cultural Institute, the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, “Moldova” National Museum Complex in Iasi, Luminu by Luminish & Atelierul de Carte, Doina Ensemble, ELLAS Ensemble from Greece, Asia Fest and the host country, Romania, which will have its own cultural program.

The Embassies Festival will kick off on September 1 at the Romania’s National Library where “A journey around the world” exhibition will open, with 19 embassies and ICR attending: South Africa, Armenia, China, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, El Salvador, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Great Britain, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, Syria, USA, Turkmenistan, Uruguay and Venezuela. The exhibition is on display by September 4, between 10:00-20:00.

Romania comes at the exhibition with a unique piece, a painted ceramics pot dating back 3,500 years BC, typical to Cucuteni Civilization, one of the most important neolithic cultures in the world, as well as three pieces of massive bronze signed by Giulian Dumitriu, Twins Reality M, Twins Reality F and Nava.

Romania also displays Romanian traditional folk costumes from various regions of the country provided by the Romanian Peasant Museum, among which there are two costumes that belonged to Queen Mary.

LUMINU by Luminish project belonging to the Manufactured Order Association is also presented by a spectacular collage – appliance, with ornamental lighting objects made of recycled paper, depicting an intercultural dialogue on the paper and its role in the world. The exhibition is designed so that visitors could travel from one meridian to another through a diversity of appliances, handicraft objects, traditional folk costumes, photography, figurines, instruments, paintings and cultural customs.

Young IT genius Ionut Budisteanu will officially launch its „Visionbot” invention at the National Library on September 3, starting 6 p.m, while the embassy of South Korea will hold an exhibition of traditional art presented in a contemporary style at Galateca Gallery, during September 1-5, 12:00-20:00.

Studio Cinema will host several film and documentary screenings suggested by 14 embassies and organizations between September 1-4. Armenia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Great Britain, the International Organization for Migration, Romania, Russia, Syria, Spain, USA, Uruguay, Venezuela and India will present their latest national cinema productions, some of them screened for the first time in Romania and even in Europe. The entrance is free.

Children will be at the hardcore at the festival, with events held in the Youth Park in district 4 on September 4-5, during 15:00-22:00. Visitors will find stalls of all 50 embassies and cultural institutes displaying various objects, cultural and traditions and also presenting interactive workshops, gastronomic tastings from Belgium, China, UK, Spain, Turkey, Hungary, etc.

At the same, a special area called „Children’s Embassy” will host workshops in foreign languages, theater, educational games, handicraft workshops where you can learn to make folk masks, ceramic figurines, how to carve peasant furniture objects, and to make jewelry and handicraft objects of various cultures.

Artistic events performed by artists from four continents are scheduled on September 4 and 5, 17:00-22:00. Singers, dancers from Russia, South Africa, UK, Japan, Peru, Ireland, Cuba, Greece, Indonesia, China, Argentina, India and Venezuela will present orginal moments.

The festival is produced by ESCU Association under the patronnage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, supported by Culture Ministry, National Library of Romania, District 4 City Hall, “Ion Dacian” Comic Opera Theatre, the Filmmakers Union in Romania, Romanian Opera, Romanian Cultural Institute, Euro Est Alternativ Cultural Association, The National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, “Moldova” National Museum Complex in Iasi, InfoCons- Promotion of Programs and Strategies in Romania, The National Authority for Tourism, National Authority for Customers’ Protection and Bucharest Tourism Board Association.
