Concerts, DJ sets, exhibitions, crafts, and gastronomy at the Balkanik Festival

Balkanik Festival – Home of World Music, now having reached its 10th Edition, will take place between 8-10 September, in Bucharest, at the Uranus Garden and along Uranus Street, conjuring its unique atmosphere during three days filled with live concerts, a vast crafts fair, exhibitions, DJ sets, workshops, demonstrations, debates, relaxation in the nature present in the heart of the city, in the shade of the water tower designed by Anghel Saligny.

For the anniversary edition, on the main festival stage, at the Uranus Garden, between 18:00 and 23:00, there will be concerts by Ovidiu Lipan Țăndărică și Fanfara din Zece Prăjini (Romania), Extraliscio (Italy), Taraf de Caliu (Romania), Papiers d’Arménies with Dan Gharibian (Armenia-France), SMADJ Balkan Project (France-Tunisia), Paulina (Romania), Ufuk Coșkun & friends (Turkey-Romania), Wernyhora (Poland), Kristijan Azirovic Orkestar (Serbia).

Friday at 16:00, on Uranus Street, as well as Saturday and Sunday between 12:00 and 18:00 DJs will perform on a dedicated stage for world music and nostalgia vibes, including ABASC, M.O.Z.A.R & Bad Mirel, Miko, Ligia Keșișian & Lucas Molina, Pixar Stelar, Daniel Mitulescu, and Irina Popescu.

For this edition, the Uranus Garden will become a grand open-air museum. Audiences will have the joyous chance to discover numerous demonstrations and workshops of old crafts – fabric weaving, ceramics, embroidery, jewel crafting, working with silver and copper. Guests at the event can also visit many photography, collage, and illustration exhibitions. Here’s a non-exhaustive list:

Art Machine – a vending machine of original works of art, invented by the Pastila Roz artistic group

Celula de Artă Pop-Up – an unconventional art gallery presenting a collective exhibition of contemporary art

The Uranus Garden and Uranus Street will also play host, during these three days, to the largest traditional and contemporary craft fair, twenty varied gastronomical areas for the foodies, with delights ranging from open-fire cauldron-cooked stews to middle-eastern vegan goodies, treats from Latin America, and coffee made on hot sand.

During the anniversary edition, there will be debates about the community as a resource, the activation of local communities, slow fashion and slow design, cultural ecosystems, re-sourcing local music, eco-heritage, sustainability etc.

Among those who will participate in these debates, there will be representatives from many organizations, including: Școala de la Bunești, Pro Patrimonio, Semne cusute, Cosânzeana, „Mihai Cristea” Bank of Vegetal Genetic Resources, artists such as Sașa Liviu Stoianovici (Balkan Taksim), Alina Ușurelu, Gabriel Durlan, Alexandru Claudiu Maxim, and many others.

Kids can participate in many educational and fun activities, as well as workshops, and will be able to enjoy the full Balkanik Festival experience, which is not only a bridge between cultures, but also between generations.

 The last early bird festival passes are available at www.balkanikfestival.ro, for 90 lei. Once these are gone, the three-day passes will cost 120 lei. Day tickets will go on sale on the week before the festival, for 50 lei. Children under 9 have free entrance to all festival areas, while under adult supervision.
