Maramures folk dancers to open Andre Rieu concerts in Bucharest
Transylvania National Folk Ensemble will open the series of the seven concerts that Duch conductor Andre Rieu is going to perform in Bucharest in June.
“For the ensemble it is the most important project in 55 years of activity”, Iuliana Dancus, director of the ensemble told Digi24.
The suggestion came from Romanian famous pan flute musician Gheorghe Zamfir, who is special guest within Rieu’s performances in Romania.
After performing in the Romanian capital, the dancers from Maramures could also have the chance to present the traditional folklore in the Netherlands.
Andre Rieu is a Dutch violinist and conductor best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra, the biggest private orchestra in the world. Together they have turned classical and waltz music into a worldwide concert touring act, as successful as some of the biggest global pop and rock music acts.[ André Rieu plays a 1667 Stradivarius violin. Up to present, Rieu has sold 40 million albums and DVDs.
