“Justice and Rule of law” US conference at the American Corner in Bucharest
The US Embassy in Bucharest, the National Library of Romania and the American Corner Bucharest have the pleasure of inviting you to the presentation titled: “Justice and Rule of Law” to be given by Joe Trimble, Deputy Political Counselor and Political-Military Officer, US Embassy.
Joe Trimble arrived in Bucharest in 2012 to be Deputy Political Counselor with the Political-Military affairs portfolio. He previously served from 2008-11 at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, where he was the Deputy Counselor to the U.S. Ambassador for Somalia. Prior to that he was the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence and Research. From 2006-7 he was a Watch Officer in the State Department’s 24/7 Operations Center. Joe served as an Economic Affairs officer in the Hague from 2004-6, and in Kingston from 2001-2003.

CinePOLSKA celebrates Polish film
The Polish Cultural Institute in Bucharest movie goers to the 10th edition of Polish Film Days, which is called CinePOLSKA starting this year. And as most Eastern European countries are celebrating 25 years since the fall of the communism, the Polish Institute has selected special films for this edition that are telling stories on different angles of freedom.

Czech exhibition at UNAgaleria
The Czech Institute in Bucharest heralds “ A different air” exhibition dedicated to artist Jan Švankmajer & Group of the Czech and Slovak Surrealists, due between December 11, 2014 and January 31, 2015 at UNAgaleria.
Jan Švankmajer is a Czech filmmaker and artist whose work spans several media. He is a self-labeled surrealist known for his animations and features, which have greatly influenced other artists such as Terry Gilliam, the Brothers Quay and many others Švankmajer has gained a reputation over several decades for his distinctive use of stop-motion technique, and his ability to make surreal, nightmarish, and yet somehow funny pictures. Švankmajer’s trademarks include very exaggerated sounds, often creating a very strange effect in all eating scenes. As a matter of fact, food is a favourite subject and medium. He continues to make films in Prague.
Portuguese to be spoken again in Timisoara
West University in Timisoara is opening a new class of Portuguese language in the ongoing academic year. Registration is open until November 15. The project was developed in a cooperation protocol between Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua and West University in Timi?oara.
