“Falstaff” directed by Graham Vick presented for the first time at Bucharest Opera
“Falstaff”, the last of Giuseppe Verdi’s creations and directed by the famous British director Graham Vick (photo) will have its opening night at Bucharest Opera on February 19, starting 7 p.m.
“Falstaff” is a modern setting, totally different from what has been presented so far.
More precisely, Graham Vick relocated the opera’s topic in our times, tackling contemporary issued such as consumerism and throwaway society, virtue and greed, with a typical British wit.
“My approach is based on an immediate, open, spontaneous dialogue between stage and audience (…) I didn’t come to show off, to make a monumental show, it would be absolutely useless. I came to live an interesting experience with a team of artists, in order to bring my personal approach and to work in a new opera, for a new audience (….) Grahamstaff Vick said.
Baritone Stefan Ignat is leading the distribution team, while Samal Blak signs the scenography. Blak was awarded Linbury prize for scenography in 2009. He collaborated before with Graham Vick in opera performances in UK.
Guillermo Garcia Calvo, conductor at State Opera in Vienna will also conduct the Opera Orchestra.
