“Cloudy Children”, “Hipopotamy”, among Kinofest’s winners
“Cloudy Children” (2014) by Reza Fahimi was awarded the best fiction short film at the ninth edition of Kinofest, which took place in Bucharest during September 25-27. A total of 225 films were screened at the festival. “Cloudy Children” is presenting the story of two children living in Iran, a mostly restrictive country.
“Hipopotamy” Polish short film (directed by Piotr Dumala, 2014) was the big winner of the Animation section. The soundtrack of the movie is signed by Romanian Alexandru Balanescu. “Hipopotamy” has a strong message, with many controversies arising. Several women and children bathing in a river are secretly observed by a group of men who decide to violently accost them in a manner inspired by the hippos’ behavior.
The audience chose the winning films at the Online competition. The best fiction short film prize went to “El Despido” (2014), by Juan Manuel Aragon, while the best animation short film went to “Menagerie” (2014), directed by Julian Gallese, a Canada-Costa Rica co-production.
“Hunting” (2015) by Chun-Hao Chen, Taiwan won the best movie at Online-Micromovie section.
