“Spartacus & Cassandra” wins the big trophy at Sibiu Astra Film Festival

“Spartacus &Cassandra” by Ioanis Nuguet won the big trophy of the 22nd edition of Astra Film Festival in Sibiu, running October 5-11.

The winning film depicts the Roma’s culture and living, with the director casting an insightful look at the children’s relation with the Roma family and community on one hand and with the French institutions and foster family, on the other hand.

“I Am The People”, a remarkable debut feature film directed by Anna Roussillon was awarded the best documentary in the International competition. The film is a cinema portrait of the Egyptian every day life in the countryside during the Arab Sprins events from the perspective of the ordinary people.

The jury granted a special mention in the same section to “With or Without You” by Hyuckjee Park. The movies was awarded for the discrete and delicate approach casted on the petty epiphanies of the day-to-day life nearby the deaths of two old women who are living together in a Korean village.

In the Central and East Europe competition, the prize for the best documentary went to “My Home” directed by Jiri Stejskal, while the big trophy for the best documentary in Romania section went to “Outside” by Andrei Schwartz, an universal story about guilt and punishment in communist and post-communist Romania.

John Albert Jansen, the director of “The Alphabet of Fear” documentary, presented for the first time in the world at Astra Film 2015, was awarded the best prize for direction.
