“Toto and his sisters” wins Millenium Documentary Festival in Brussels
“Toto and his sisters” directed by Alexander Nanau won “Objectif d’Or”, the big award of the seventh edition of the Millenium International Documentary Festival which took place during March 20-28 in Brussels.
The movie is on observational documentary, shot for 14 months in Ferentari district in Bucharest, where a large Roma community is residing. It tells the story of three brothers, Totonel, Ana and Andreea, who had to put up with their mother’s absence and to prematurely grow up.
The documentary is a Romanian-Hungarian-German coproduction and won several international prizes, including the big trophy at Premiers Plans de la Angers Film Festival. It was also awarded the best international documentary prize at Zurich Festival. Other distinctions include the Silver Eye prize for the best documentary at Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival 2014.
The film was released at San Sebastian Festival, in September last year.
