Goethe-Institut kicks off the Week of Sound, presents “the Urban Sound Art”

The Week of Sound in Bucharest is preparing a new series of events focused on the sound in the cultural creation (the sound music, literature, radio, cinema), on the acoustic of the spaces, the sounds of the city, the sound pollution or the ear health (the sound level of the concerts, prevention, sound excess).

The Week of Sound (La Semaine du Son) was born in France 15 years ago and is running in tens of cities around the globe, with Bucharest being the first in the CEE that has joined the event.

The 4th edition of the event is organized in Romania by the Jumatatea Plina Association, with Goethe-Institut in Bucharest as main partner, presenting the Urban Sound Art theme through a series of events hosted in the institute’s new HQ on 32 Calea Dorobanti.

March 8, 7 p.m.

Sound Art in public space by Carsten Seiffarth – a conference about the sound art and the link between sound and space.

March 8, 8 p.m.

”Solo Concert solo with unusual instruments” performed by Erwin Stache, using sensors, table legs, wooden hangers.

March 9, 3 p.m.

”Performing Architecture”- Sound Walk by Sam Auinger- an exploratory walk around Bucharest, where the public will have the chance to learn to think with the ears. They will examine the urban architecture elements inside the Goethe Institute’s building and around it.

March 9, 7p.m.

The Sound Walk will be followed by a lecture-performance ”Thinking with your ears. The presentation by sound artist Sam Auinger is based on the strategy of the active listening through word, sound and image.
