“Jesús del Cerro, a Spanish filmmaker in Romania”, film event at Cervantes Institute
Spain’s Embassy to Romania and the Cervantes Institute in Bucharest invites you to “Jesús del Cerro, a Spanish filmmaker in Romania”, a film event running at Cervantes Institute during February 12-March 8. The event brings Spanish director and producer Jesús del Cerro into the limelight and will comprise a selection of five movies, ranging from action, drama to romance, including Jesús del Cerro’s latest film, “Hawaii”.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session attended by the film director himself and hosted by Romanian actress Cristina Flutur who is the leading actress of the movie. Cristina Flutur was awarded the Palme d’Or at Cannes for playing the part of Alina in Cristian Mungiu’s “Beyond the Hills”.
The screenings continue with two comedies: “The Godmother”, which was awarded the Gopo prize for the best audience and “Carlitos y el campo de los sueños/Carlitos and the Chance of a Lifetime” (Spain, 2008), the first feature film directed by Jesús del Cerro, which won the prize for the best film and the Public prize at Giffoni film festival.
“Far From Here” will be also screened. Jesus del Cerro is the screen writer and the producer of the film, with Romanian exceptional actors starring: Maia Morgenstein, Maria Dinulescu or Andi Vasluianu.
The film selectio will end on March 8 with the documentary “Pregnant in Romania”, which will have its preview at the Cervantes Institute on the Woman’s International Day. The documentary highlights, among others, the conservatorism of the Romanian society regarding the condition of the woman. The film is followed by a debate attended by the director.

Jesús del Cerro represents a benchmark of the cinema and television both in Romania and Spain. In Spain he directed and produced some of the most successful Spanish TV series, such as Medico de Familia”, “Policias”, ” Compañeros” and “Un Paso adelante” . This one was a huge success all over the world and was sold to more than 70 countries like Germany, France, Italy or Netherlands.
In 2008 Jesús directed “Carlitos and the chance of the lifetime” his first feature film, which was a success in the Spanish box office and won more than 20 international film festivals. In 2009 Jesús started working in Romania, where he directed eight features films and the documentary “Pregnant in Romania”. In 2018 he will launch his first American movie “Attraction” filmed in Puerto Rico, Los Angeles and Paris with Chris Atkins, Tara Read and Dina de Laurentiis, and he is working on the animation movie “First Goal” that will be launched in 2019.
