La Gomera, Romania’s proposal for the Oscars

“La Gomera”, directed by the Romanian filmmaker Corneliu Porumboiu, has been nominated as Romania’s proposal for the Oscars’ Best International Feature Film in 2020.

The film starring Vlad Ivanov had its world premiere at the International Film Festival in Cannes this year.

The Annual Selection Committee of the Romanian Film has convened and decided to propose La Gomera to represent Romania at the 2020 Oscars at the Best International Feature Film category.

The committee has consisted this year of: Dana Duma (film critic), Ionuț Mareș (film critic), Irina Trocan film critic), Iulia Blaga (film critic), Cristina Corciovescu (film critic), Mihai Chirilov (TIFF art director).

The eligible films for the Oscars had or will have their premier between October 1, 2018 and September 30, 2019. This year, the committee has chosen from 5 feature films.

La Gomera is also on the list of those 46 productions eligible to be nominated at the European Film Awards, dubbed as the European Oscars, which are due in Berlin on December 7.

La Gomera will hit the theaters in Romania on September 13.
