Premiere concerts, film screenings accompanied by live music improvisations, film concerts and internationally renowned artists are marking the 17th edition of the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) due in Cluj-Napoca during May 25-June 3.

Concert: The Colorist Orchestra & Emiliana Torrini

May 29, 19:0hr, Casa de Cultură a Studenților

The famous Icelandinc female artist Emiliana Torrini has clinched a collaboration with the Belgian band The Colorist Orchestra through an album that The Guardian described as „a vribant and colorful collection of fusions of the classic and contemporary”.

Emiliana Torrini’s voice, seldom compared to the one of Bjork, can be also listened on the soundtrack of such films as The Lord of the Rings (2002, by Peter Jackson), Men, Women & Children (2014, by Jason Reitman) or Tenderness (2009, by John Polson). Her music recolored by the eight members of The Colorist Orchestra, their hipnotizing sound born from the mix of classic and original music instruments are dubbed by a fantastic setting- a wooden installation in motion.


Cine-concert: Safety Last! Accompanied live by Samuel Liégeon

May 27, 19:00hr, Casa de Cultură a Studenților

The silent film directed by Fred C. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor in 1923, Safety Last!, will be screened at TIFF on the live music performed by French pianist Samuel Liégeon.


Cine-Concert: The Phantom of the Opera , accompanied live by Samuel Liégeon

May 28, 21: 45hr, „St. Trinity” Roman-Catholic Chruch (5 Universității street)

The music improvisations signed by Samuel Liégeon will accompany live the screening of one of the most famous horror movies in the silent film history, „The Phantom of the Opera” directed by Rupert Julian in 1924.


Special film concert „The Magic Eye” on June 1

June 1, 17:00hr, Casa de Cultură a Studenților

Starting from the cinema work of director Georges Méliès, The Magic Eye (En plein dans l’œil) recreates the surrealistic and poetic universe given by the filmmaker’s technical innovations. The music compositions signed by Jean-Francois Alcoléa and performed live by Alcoléa & Cie, have been especially created for the screenings. The performance will be dubbed by light effects and an innovative setting and will end up in a live acoustic mix, combining classic with pop and underground music.
