Hollywood actor Michael Douglas mentioned Romanian language and Romanian immigrants in the UK during an interview granted to CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour. Talking about his take on the U.S. election and why blaming the country’s economic ills on immigration is not fair, Douglas also referred to immigration today, reminding that he was born in a family of Russian Jewish immigrants, and mentioned Romanian immigrants working on building yards in London.

“I walked around London early yesterday morning, there was a lot of construction going on and all I heard was Romanian language, there were a lot of immigrants doing the work that people of the country choose not to do. We all tend to forget the fact, particularly in the US, that we are all immigrants,” Michael Douglas said.

Michael Douglas was born in New Jersey in 1944, the first child of actors Kirk Douglas (who is going to turn 100 in December) and Diana Dill (who died last year). His paternal grandparents were Jewish immigrants from Chavusy (now in Belarus, then part of the Russian Empire), and his father was born “Issur Danielovitch”. Their paternal grandparents came to the USA in 1914.
