Miss World 1998 in Romania to launch film on tragic experience
Miss World 1998, Linor Abargil from Israel is in Romania to attend the screening of “Brave Miss World” documentary inspired from a tragic moment of her life.
Young Linor became Miss Israel in 1998 and soon after she fell a victim to sexual violence, prompting her to become a fierce fighter against rape. A decade later, she decided to translate her unfortunate experience in a documentary meant to encourage other women experiencing the same tragedy.
Present in Bucharest to launch her movie, the former miss world said people must praise good moments in their life, while explaining the movie is addressed both to men and women and they should not be ashamed if they experienced a tragic moment, as there is light after dark.
However, she confessed her anger was somehow appeased when her aggressor was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The screening is due tonight, May 18, starting 19:00 at AFI Cinema City Cotroceni. Israel ambassador in Bucharest, Dan Ben-Eliezer, members of the diplomatic corps in Bucharest, and artists are expected to attend the event, which is fostered by the Romanian Parliament, with the support of Labour and Family ministry.
Just six weeks prior to her participation in the Miss World contest 1998, Abargil was abducted, stabbed, and raped in Milan when she was 18 years old. Despite the excruciating trauma, she went on to win the Miss World contest in 1998.
