Artmark auction closes winter session on December 17
Nicolae Tonitza’s ’Good morning!’ (‚Buna diminea?a’, estimated between EUR 120,000 and EUR 160,000) and ’The white swan’ (‚Lebada alba’, estimated between EUR 60,000 and EUR 90,000) are to be displayed on winter Artmark auction.
’Good morning!’ is part of dr. Iosif Dona (perhaps the most fervent Tonitza collector) well-known collection of 44 oil paintings, aquarelles and drawings.
The second Tonitza, ‘The white swan’, portrait of a pure child, with mythological references, comes from an important collection (of diplomat Vasile Stoica) receded by the Museum of Art Collections in 2007.
‘Still Nature with lilac and pipe’ (‘Natura static cu liliac si pipa’, by Theodor Pallady, estimated between EUR 40,000 and EUR 55,000) completes the winter auction. The oil painting belonged to Marie Jeanne Diamandy (daughter of Pallady’s wife from a previous marriage) and her husband Nicolae Bastaki, was displayed on the artist personal exhibit since 1933 at the Romanian Atheneum.
Gheorghe Petrascu fills the auction with ‘Wild Flowers’ (‘Flori de camp’,estimated between EUR 20,000 and EUR 30,000) and ‘Carnations’ (‘Garoafe’, estimated between EUR 12,000 and EUR 18,000), true masterpieces of static nature, genre that no other painter conveys with such expressiveness and intensity.
‘Masquerade Evening’ (‘Seara de bal mascat’, by Theodor Aman, estimated between EUR 20,000 and EUR 30,000) and ‘Shepherd boy’ (‘Ciobanas’, by Nicolae Grigorescu, estimated between EUR 25,000 and EUR 35,000) close up the winter auction.
The paintings will be exhibited at Artmark, Cesianu-Racovita Palace until Tuesday, December 16. The auction takes place at JW Marriott Grand Hotel Bucharest, on December 17, 19:30.
