The iconic Peleș and Pelișor Castles, the former communist prisons, the “Three Holy Hierarchs” Church in Iași and the Episcopal Church “The Dormition of the Virgin Mary” of the Argeș Monastery in Curtea de Argeș, the Movile Cave – were included in the Tentative List of countries for UNESCO World Heritage, a announced the Minister of Culture, Raluca Turcan.

The Ministry of Culture, through the National Heritage Institute, sent to the UNESCO World Heritage Center the forms for the four assets – three cultural and one natural – which, through the exceptional qualities that underpin the cultural or natural value, have the potential to be recognized at the international level for the importance they have for present and future generations.

“I thank all the collaborators and institutions involved in this joint effort, which is part of a wider effort by the Ministry of Culture, through the National Institute of Heritage, dedicated to finalizing the forms for a series of 11 other positions included in the revised version of the Indicative List of of Romania for the UNESCO World Heritage List”, Turcan said.

Romania is in the process of preparing the transnational nomination file (together with Bulgaria, Croatia and Serbia) for the Frontiers of the Roman Empire – the Danube Limes, the eastern segment, and it also has two nomination files under evaluation for which the World Heritage Committee is to take a decision during the 46th meeting in India, in July 2024: The Monumental Ensemble made by Constantin Brâncuși at Târgu Jiu and the Frontiers of the Roman Empire – Dacia.
