A record number of films are racing for nominations at the 11th edition of Gopo Romanian film awards: 21 fiction feature films, 15 documentaries and 52 shorts, the Association for Romanian Film Promotion informed.
Among the eligible fiction feature films released in Romanian theatres last year there are: “Sieranevada” (director Cristi Puiu), “Două lozuri/Two tickets” (director Paul Negoescu), “Inimi cicatrizate/Scarred Hearts” (director Radu Jude), “Ilegitim/Illegitimate” (director Adrian Sitaru), “#Selfie 69” (director Cristina Iacob), “Mercy Street — Strada Speranței” animation (directors Ștefan Buzea and Radu Nicolae) and debut films “Caini/Dogs” (directed by Bogdan Mirică), “Discordia/Discord” (directed by Ion Indolean), “Dublu/Double” (direction Catrinel Dănăiață).
52 short films are racing for the best short award; among them there are: “Mă cheamă Costin/My name is Costin” (direction Radu Potcoavă), “4:15 P.M. Sfârșitul lumii/End of the world” (direction Cătălin Rotaru and Gabi Virginia Șarga), “Noiembrie/November” (direction Ioachim Stroe), “Șapte luni mai târziu/Seven months later” (directionAndrei Crețulescu), “Mamă, Tată, trebuie să vă spun ceva/Mom. Dad, I have to tell you something” (direction Paul Mureșan).
Among the 15 documentaries shortlisted for the Gopo 2017 awards there are: “Doar o răsuflare/Just a breath” (direction Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan), “Varză, cartofi și alți demoni/Cabbage, potatoes and other demons” (direction Șerban Georgescu), “În căutarea tatălui pierdut/In search of the lost father” (direction Ionuț Teianu), “Camera obscură/The dark room” (direction Gheorghe Preda).
Nomination for all the film categories are to be revealed in February-end. The 2017 Gopo Awards are due on March 21.
