Romance Film Festival to bring 9 love stories to Brasov in February

The first edition of the Romance Film Festival “Love Story” will take place in Brasov during February 9-15. Nine romance movies will be screened at Patria Cinema in Brasov, among which the famous Arthur Miller’s “Love Story” (USA, 1970) which is thus celebrating 45 years since its first premiere. The screening is due on February 14, on Saint Valentine’s Day. Entrance for couples is free.

Another movie screened at the festival is Amour/Love (France, 2012), directed by Michael Haneke. The film tells the story of Georges and Anne, a golden-ager couple who are living abroad, with their daughter, Eva. They have both been music teachers, they are educated and refined, but their love will be challenged by Anna’s sudden stroke that paralyses part of her body. The film won the Oscar for the best foreign movie in 2013 and the Palm d’Or at Cannes in 2012. It was also awarded the Golden Globe for the best foreign movie in 2012.

The Broken Circle Breakdown (Belgium, 2012) directed by Felix Van Groeningen tells the love story of two completely different persons. Elise and Didier fell in love with each other, and it is love at first sight, although he is a romantic atheist and she is a pragmatic churchgoer. When their daughter becomes severely ill, their love will be seriously challenged. The Academy Awards nominated it for the best foreign film.

Adele: Chapters 1 and 2 La vie/The Life (France, 2013) directed by Abdellatif Kechiche is the story of a 15 year-old girl who meets Emma, a blue-haired young girl. Emma allows Adele to discover desire, to begin assume her condition as a woman and as a grown up. The movie was awarded Palme d’Or and FIPRESCI prizes at Cannes 2013.

Romania is well presented at the festival by Love Bus: five love stories from Bucharest. Having five directors, the movie was released last year as an independent production shot with Cinema and Theatre University’ s students and graduates. It is a bus film, actually, made of five separate episodes, each telling a love story occurring in five Bucharest’s districts.

Spanish director Pedro Almodovar “brings” Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Marisa Paredes at Brasov through La Piel Que Habito/The skin that I am leaving in. After his wife burnt to death following a car crash, doctor Robert Ledgard, a brilliant plastic surgeon, got interested in creating a new type of human skin that might have saved his wife. After 12 years of researches, he manages to create a skin that offers protection against any kind of attack. It won BAFTA prize for a film in other language than English.

Vicky Christina Barcelona (USA, 2008), De vrais mensonges/ True Lies (France, 2010) and En kongelig affære/ A royal affair (Sweden-Denmark, 2012) will also be screened at Brasov festival.

The festival is organized by Fanzin Cultural Association, in partnership with Independenta film and Brasov City Hall.
