The winners of the Oscars 2021 were announced last night, with the 93rd gala of the Annual Academy Awards being broadcast in over 255 countries.
Romania was also racing in the finals, with the documentary film “Colectiv” being nominated for two categories, the Best documentary feature and the Best foreign film, but it failed to take any trophy.
However, it is the best performance for Romania so far at the Academy Awards, with a movie being nominated for two categories.
“After years of criticism for a lack of diversity, this year’s slate of nominees contained some notable firsts. It was the first time an all-Black producing team was nominated for best picture, the first time two actors of Asian descent received a nod for best actor and the first year that two women were nominated for best director. When the winners were revealed, it reflected this spirit of inclusion,” reports CNBC.
Chloe Zhao won the best directing trophy, becoming the second woman to claim the title. Her film, “Nomadland,” also grabbed the top prize of the night, best picture and the best actress award.
