Romanian movie wins Crossing Europe Film Festival in Linz

“Self-portrait of a Dutiful Daughter” feature film by Ana Lungu on Monday night was awarded the big prize of the Crossing Europe International Film Festival in Linz, Austria.

The prize worth EUR 10,000 was ex-aequo granted to Ana Lungu’s film and to “Barbarians” co-production (Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia” directed by Ivan Iki?.

The Linz award is joining the other two prizes that the Romanian movie received at the end of last week at the Bucharest International Film Festival (BIFF): the prize for the best direction and the audience’s trophy.

The movie will be screened at the European Film Festival in Bucharest the upcoming month, a highly expected event organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute and the European Commission Representation in Romania, with the support of the European countries’ embassies and cultural institutes.

Ana Lungu’s movie will be presented at Cinema Pro on May 10, starting 20:30, in the presence of the cast. The premiere in theaters is due on September 25.

“Self-portrait of a Dutiful Daughter” tells the story of 30-year-old Cristina, a well-born woman. The character, performed by theatre actress Elena Popa, spends her time between a doctor’s degree in seismic engineering and rare but most expected dates with a married man. After her parents move out, Cristina is living be herself in a Bucharest apartment and decides to adopt a dog, her childhood desire.
