Romanian youngsters win Oscars 2015 recognition

A Romanian-born young man established in Sweden will be awarded the Oscar statuette for “scientific and hi-tech performances”.

Mihai Alden and his team designed a special soft used for cartoon graphics designing by DreamWorks, the famous US production company. Open VDB was thus used to create films such as Puss in Boots, How To Train Your Dragon 2 or Penguins of Madagascar.

Mihai, 29 moved to Sweden together with his family when he was the third grade. He studied at Linkoping prestigious university and then ended up working with DreamWorks.

“There are many years of research behind this award. What is new about this soft is its ‘open source’ project that everybody can access. Many producing companies worldwide used our library for their special effects,” Mihai said, as quoted by Pro TV.

Mihai Alden is to receive the American Film Academy award and the Oscar statuette during a special gala in Hollywood due on February 7, just a few days ahead his 30th birthday.

27-year-old Alice Goidea is another Romanian young lady whose name is related to the 87th Academy Awards ceremony due on February 22. Alice is one of the 50 make-up artists in the world selected to attend the great event, according to Digi24. She graduated from Pharmacy Faculty but has been great on make-up for three years.
