Royal Charitable Concert for the benefit of young Romanian artists in Bucharest this autumn

International renowned Romanian musicians, such as soprano Cellia Costea, tenor Teodor Ilincăi and the Romanian Youth Orchestra, conducted by Gabriel Bebeşelea are reuniting for the Royal Charitable Concert on the stage of the Romanian Athenaeum this autumn on October 25.

The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation continues the tradition of supporting and promoting Romanian culture and talent through the twelfth edition of the Royal Charitable Concert. Organized annually on October 25, the Royal Concert is one of the most long-lasting and successful fundraising events in Romania. The funds raised after the concert will support the Young Talents program, through which the Foundation offers scholarships, mentoring and promotion to the most talented young Romanian artists from modest families.

Held annually since 2008 by the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation, the Royal Charitable Concert has traditionally taken place on October the 25th, on the occasion of the anniversary of King Michael I of Romania, founder of the Foundation together with her Majesty Margareta, the Custodian of the Crown of Romania. Every edition of the concert brought to the scene of the Romanian Athenaeum the most valuable musicians of the moment along with big orchestras, in support of young talented Romanian artists.

Soprano Cellia Costea lives in Athens, where she is considered the number one female voice of the Greek capital. She is one of the most beautiful, warm and resounding Romanian female opera voices of the last two decades. Tenor Teodor Ilincăi is one of the most famous and appreciated tenors of his generation. Since his debut, he has been invited to perform on the stages of prestigious opera theaters around the world. Teodor Ilincăi achieved many awards and distinctions and he participated in important national and international humanitarian galas. Admired for his enthusiasm and musicality, conductor Gabriel Bebeşelea is recognized as one of the most talented Romanian conductors of the last decades. He is the Principal Conductor of the “Transylvania” State Philharmonic Orchestra of Cluj-Napoca and has conducted world renowned orchestras. The Romanian Youth Orchestra is considered the best orchestra in the country in recent years and it is appreciated for its artistic performance on international level as well. Member of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras since 2011, the orchestra is constantly invited to the George Enescu International Festival. Over the years, it has marked numerous premieres for a Romanian orchestra on the great European stages.

Over the time, the funds raised from sponsorships and donations have amounted to over EUR 1,300,000 and have helped develop the national Young Talents program. More than 300 scholarships have been awarded to early-stage artists, who come from low-income families, and with the support of mentors and sustained promotion, they have achieved extraordinary performances at national and international level.

Young Talents Program Overview

Many talented children are born in families whose financial possibilities do not allow them to pursue and develop their talent. Thus, Romania loses each year dozens of talented young people, who otherwise might become cultural ambassadors. As an answer to this issue, the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation created this national social program with the aim of supporting and promoting talented young artists from low-income families who need financial assistance to develop their potential and to express their talent. Over 300 young artists aged between 14-24 years old and studying in art and music high schools and universities from Romania have been helped to overcome their financial struggles and to continue to express their artistic value.

The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation was founded in 1990 by King Michael I of Romania and Her Majesty Margareta, the Custodian of the Crown of Romania. With over 29 years of activity, the Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation supports children, young people and the elderly through sustainable interventions, based on sharing experiences and values ​​between generations.
