Shows and exhibitions all over Romania on National Culture Day, marking Mihai Eminescu’s birthday

Shows, plays, exhibitions, guided tours or concerts will take place today all over the country, on the occasion of the National Culture Day, in the institutions subordinated to the Ministry of Culture. All museums subordinate to the Ministry of Culture will celebrate National Culture Day with free access for all visitors, the ministry announces in a press release inviting the public to discover the exhibitions and programs prepared. National Culture Day was established in 2010 and is celebrated every year on January 15, the birthday of the poet Mihai Eminescu.

The “I.L. Caragiale” National Theater in Bucharest presents, from 7:00 p.m., a “National Culture Day Show”. In the first part, the performance-reading “Emmi, lost love, lost life” by Mihai Eminescu, directed by Răzvan Popa, will take place. The cast includes Raluca Aprodu, Alexandru Potocean, Ciprian Nicula, Florin Călbăjos, Răzvan Popa. In the second part, it will be possible to watch the show “Childhood Memories” by Ion Creangă, script, direction and performance by Vitalie Bichir.

Also on January 15 at TNB, a series of guided tours are scheduled from 11:00, 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00, and the performances hosted “The Romanian Dream” – Sala Media, 18:30, “ A life, a sock, a dream and a typewriter” – Sala Studio, 19:00, “Gaițele” – Sala Ion Caramitru, 20:00, and “Artă” – Sala Media, 20:30. The Bucharest National Theater Museum, located in the basement of the Great Hall of TNB, will be open during the National Culture Day, with free entry for all visitors, between 12:00 and 18:00.

The “George Enescu” Philharmonic will celebrate January 15, National Culture Day, through activities and events dedicated to the public of all ages. On January 15, at 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., two free guided tours are scheduled at the Romanian Athenaeum with prior registration of groups at the address [email protected].

Also on January 15, from 6:00 p.m., as part of the “Music for Everyone’s Meaning” educational project, an extraordinary concert will take place, at which the soloists will be members of the “George Enescu” Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir. Entrance to this concert is free, with priority for students who come through the School Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest.

The National Art Museum of Romania (MNAR) inaugurates, on the occasion of the National Culture Day, on January 15, the Gallery of European Decorative Art. On National Culture Day, the MNAR headquarters in Calea Victoriei will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the public having the opportunity to visit the European Decorative Art Gallery, the Historical Spaces, the European Art Gallery and the National Gallery for free.

Bucharest National Opera celebrates National Culture Day, with the premiere, at 18:00, of the performance Oedipe by George Enescu, directed by Stefano Poda and conducted by Tiberiu Soare. At the same time, the event will be dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the inauguration of the most important opera scene in Romania. The Romanian Athenaeum can be visited free of charge within the limits of the program available on January 15.
The National History Museum of Romania opens, on National Culture Day, the themed exhibition “Monuments of ancient culture and the Romanian literary language from the MNIR heritage. Epigraphy, paleography, calligraphy, typographic art and literary creation”.
At the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant on the Day of National Culture, between 10:00 and 18:00, the exhibition “Alexandru Tzigara-Samurcaş – Founder of the National Museum” will be open, with free access.
At the “Grigore Antipa” National Museum of Natural History, on National Culture Day, from 10:00, the opening of the interactive exhibition “Romanians of the Story”, an event organized in partnership with the Bigger Picture Digital Education Association, will take place.
At the National Museum of the “Dimitrie Gusti” Village, on Monday, as part of the “Longing for Eminescu” event, the opening of the exhibitions “My homeland, the Romanian language” made by the Romanian Cultural Foundation DLN in Ploiesti, with 80 photographs of the poet Nichita Stănescu , and “Under the sign of the great Eminescu” which includes works by plastic artists, members of the Religious Art and Restoration Branch Association.
The Museum of the Horrors of Communism in Romania organizes the event “FORGETTING. Memory, identity and celebration of national culture. The role of memory in the Ţipoia and Pillat families” on Monday, from 2:00 p.m., at the Painter Alexandru Ţipoia Memorial House.
At the Museum of Maps, the conference “Historical Myopia. How we explain history through contemporary art” is organized on Monday, from 18:00.
The joint festive session, in a hybrid format, organized in collaboration with the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, will take place at the Romanian Academy, starting at 11:00, simultaneously in the Big Hall of the Romanian Academy and in the Azure Hall of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
