Sweden is the honorary guest of Bookfest International Book Fair this year. The event is due at Romexpo during May 24-28. “The Swedish literature is one of the main pillars of the current cultural landscape and I hope the public will enjoy the eloquence and freshness brought by the honorary guest of Bookfest 2017 edition,” said Grigore Arsene, the president of the Romanian Publishers Association, Bookfest’s organizer.
With the slogan “Sweden: Creating Stories”, nine guests from Sweden will come to Bucharest to attend public reading sessions, book launches, debates and round tables.
The Swedish Embassy in Bucharest intends that Sweden’s presence at Bookfest to be an occasion of reflection on such topics as education for reading, gender equality, human rights, minorities’ integration and diversity promotion.
The honorary guest country also has a lot of events for the little ones in store. “We are vey happy that Sweden is the honorary guest country of Bookfest this year. We particularly invite children to attend the activities in the <Kids Corner> at the Swedish stall,” said H.E. Anneli Lindahl Kenny, Sweden’s ambassador to Romania.
The list of the Swedish guests comprises writers, poets, book illustrators, editors and cultural managers. It is a generous selection of guests, aiming to illustrate the architecture of the contemporary Swedish book market, which is one of the most important in the world.
Nowadays, the Swedish fiction writing ranks in the top of the most translated literatures in the world, with the Swedish authors’ books being translated in more than 50 languages. Besides, Sweden is the literary space that is hosting the most prestigious literary award in the world: the Nobel Prize for Literature.
Sweden’s stall will be located in C4 Pavilion at Romexpo. Those 20 events organized by the Swedish Embassy to Romania in partnership with its partners will take place both at the stall and also in other locations of the C4 pavilion.
