After having completed a tour of 48 days and 27 shows in China, Romanian tenor Stefan von Korch is due to perform in Nuremberg on October 7 in a concert showcasing exclusively arias and duets from Romanian operas and operettas. The concert, tilted DOR, will be conducted by maestro Cristian Sandu. The concert takes place on October 7 at Peterskirche from 19.00 hours.

Stefan von Korch points out: “I enthusiastically accepted this invitation, because it gives me the chance to introduce the audience to pillars of Romanian operatic repertory. I value these compositions, which I rarely get to sing, and I resonate with their folkloric core, because my first steps on stage have been through folkloric songs.”

Conductor Cristian Sandu adds: “this project named DOR (Despre Oameni şi România / About People and Romania) invites the German audience on a musical journey through the ethos and atmosphere of the Romanian soul, through very popular scores of the Romanian operatic genre.

The program of the concert, elaborated by the maestro Cristian Sandu himself, will comprise a series of arias, duets and orchestral moments, from operas and operettas written by famous Romanian composers. The audience will listen to pieces such as: “Lăsaţi-mă să cânt” and  “Lysistrata” by Gherase Dendrino, “Ana Lugojana” by Filaret Barbu, “Crai nou” by Ciprian Porumbescu, “Dunărea albastră” by Iosif Ivanovici, “Năpasta” by Sabin Drăgoi and “Luceafărul” by Nicolae Bretan.

Tenor Ştefan von Korch says: “the audience will enjoy some of the jewels of the Romanian operatic repertory and I can already reveal that I will sing one of my favorite tunes, «Mult mă-ntreabă inima,» from the operetta “La seceriş” by Tiberiu Brediceanu. It is both spectacular and very Romanian in spirit, and I look forward to introducing it to the German public.”

Alongside tenor Ştefan von Korch the other performers who will take the stage in Nurenberg are: Antonia Beteag (soprano), Janetka Hoșco (mezzosoprano), Cătălin Moței (bariton) and the Chamber Orchestra of the National Music Academy Gheorghe Dima from Cluj-Napoca.

At the end of the show a questions and answers session will be conducted by lect. univ. dr Raluca Zglobiu of the Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca.

The DOR concert is co-financed by the Romanian Cultural Institute, through the CANTEMIR Program – funding program for cultural projects intended for the international environment. The Romanian Cultural Institute is not responsible for the content of the project or how the results of the project can be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the beneficiary of the funding.
