Nicolae Tonitza’s 94 yo painting “The acrobat’s little girl” is one of the stars of the Fall Auction at Artmark, which will take place on November 19 at the Athenee Palace Hilton in Bucharest.

The work has an estimated price between EUR 70,000 and 120,000.

Painted in the mid ‘20s, a period in Tonitza’s career well-known for some of the most impressive children’s portraits, the work can be found at the junction between portrait and decorative composition, vibrating in a bright color. The painting was part of the collection of the former Foreign Minister George Macovescu.

Another star of the exhibition and of the auction is the work titled “Intimacy” by the same master (estimated price: EUR 120.000 to 180.000), whose undeniable value is given not only by aesthetic principles, but also by its history.

Another work by the same artist to be auctioned on November 19 is “Dreaming” (estimated price: EUR 15.000 to 22.000), which was part of the collection of Romanian diplomat Basil Stoica, being also confiscated in ‘77 by Romania’s National Museum of Art and in 2009, returned to the rightful heirs. The work is ranged on the national cultural heritage category.
