The end of September brings to the EXCELSIOR Theater the official premiere of the show EMAUS by Alessandro Baricco, in a collective dramatization coordinated by Edda Coza. The show talks about adolescence through the filter of a maturity more willing to understand than to judge. The official premiere of the show will take place on September 27 and 28, 2024, at 19:00, in the “Ion Lucian” Hall (Strada Academiei 28), and the last tickets can be purchased directly from the theater’s website.

EMAUS by Alessandro Baricco, translated by Gabriela Lungu, is staged for the world premiere at the Excelsior Theatre, in a version dramatized collectively by the performance team, under the coordination of Edda Coza. The show’s creative team consists of Edda Coza and Dan Coza (director), Mariana Gavriciuc (choreography and stage movement), Clara Pop (scenography), Adrian Piciorea and raw creatives group (original music and sound design), Dani Buglea (lighting design ), Karla Broșteanu (graphic design), and the cast includes actors Eduard Chimac (Narrator), Irina Ștefan (Andre), Vlad Crudu (Luca), Iustin Danalache (Saint), Tony Macpela (Bobby).

“EMAUS talks about adolescence through the filter of a maturity more willing to understand than to judge. The story of five young people from Italy in the 70s reveals with humor, melancholy or even brutality, that the truths about ourselves and the world bring us more doubts than certainties. And maybe that’s a good thing,” said Edda Coza, director.

Hoping to reconcile with the past, a nameless boy returns to the heart of the Catholic community where he grew up. The flashback is deeply unsettling and throws him into a vortex of memories. He reunites with his friends, Bobby, Luca and the Saint, but especially with Andre, who shakes all the convictions instilled by family and religion, forcing them to see life beyond good and evil.

“A novel of adolescence troubled by the essential questions of existence, of the painful entry into the world of adults”, says Dan C. Mihăilescu about EMAUS by Alessandro Baricco, the novel published in 2012 by Humanitas Publishing House, in the Raftul Denisei Collection. T

The EMAUS show is the result of a theatre project with the same title, initiated by the Tangent Association in February 2024, in partnership with the Excelsior Theatre, the National Theater “I.L. Caragiale” Bucharest, Hearth Association and LiterNet.ro, being co-financed by AFCN.
