Ukrainian Roman Lopatynskyi Wins 2024 George Enescu Piano Competition

Roman Lopatynskyi from Ukraine wins the 2024 George Enescu International Competition, Piano Section, after a Final in which he performed Concerto no. 2 in B flat major for piano and orchestra op. 83 by Johannes Brahms. In second place was Tatiana Dorokhova and in third place was Evgeny Konnov.

Roman Lopatynskyi (31 years old, Ukraine) is the winner of the 19th edition of the George Enescu International Competition, Piano Section, at the end of a final in which he performed Concert no. 2 in B flat major for piano and orchestra op. 83 by Johannes Brahms, accompanied by the “George Enescu” Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Christian Reif.

The winner of the 2nd Prize, Tatiana Dorokhova (33 years old, Russia) performed the Concerto no. 1 in D minor for piano and orchestra op. 15 by Johannes Brahms while 3rd Prize winner Evgeny Konnov (32, Russia) performed Concerto no. 1 in B flat minor for piano and orchestra op. 23 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The George Enescu International Competition is held under the High Patronage of the President of Romania, being a cultural project financed by the Government of Romania through the Ministry of Culture and organized by ARTEXIM.
The Jury of the Piano Section for the 19th edition of the George Enescu International Competition was formed by the pianists Lilya Zilberstein (President of the Jury), Luiza Borac, Dana Borșan, Sina Kloke, Vovka Ashkenazy, Andrei Pisarev, Simon Trpčeski, Alexander Shtarkman and manager Martin Campbell-White. The first prize of the 19th edition of the George Enescu International Competition is worth 15,000 euros net, the second prize 10,000 euros net, and the third prize 5,000 euros net. Also, the laureates of the 2024 George Enescu International Competition will be offered the chance to perform in the 2025 and 2026 editions of the George Enescu International Festival and Competition, as well as in concerts organized during the philharmonic seasons in the country.
As part of the George Enescu International Competition, the record label Electrecord offers the winners of the first prizes from the cello, violin and piano sections, the opportunity to record works by George Enescu, with the possibility of being transposed on a dedicated double album. The Enescu 2024 Competition trophies are made by the artist Mihai Băncilă.
During the Awards Gala, three special awards were also offered:
The Radu Lupu Award for the best interpretation of a work by George Enescu, worth 3,000 euros net, was won by Roman Lopatynskyi, who performed Sonata no. 3 in D major op. 24.
The prize for the best interpretation of the assigned work – Bulz for piano by Diana Rotaru worth 2,000 euros net, was won by Tatiana Dorokhova.
The Constanța Erbiceanu Award, offered by the Erbiceanu Cultural Foundation, worth 2,500 euros net, which is attributed to a Romanian competitor, was won by Alexa Stier.
The Audience Award, worth 1,000 euros net, was won by Evgeny Konnov, who was voted by audiences from 15 countries: Malaysia, Croatia, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Argentina, North Macedonia, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Ukraine , Italy, Russia, the United States of America, Germany and Romania.
