Among the confirmed theatre performances presented at Undercloud festival there are The Tragedian trilogy, starring Alister O’Loughlin, Israeli performance Control Freaks&More and the puppet show for adults Voix dans le Noir based on Matei Visniec’s book, “Théâtre décomposé ou l’homme-poubelle.”
The Tragedian is the trilogy by Prodigal Theater in London, which follows the legendary British actor Edmund Kean’s climb and decline.
France and R. Moldova present two shows based on Matei Visniec’s books. The Romanian-born author is one of the special guests of the festival this year. „Communism history told for the mental patients” is a historical comedy staged by the „Eugene Ionescu” Theatre in Chisinau, directed by Slava Sambris.
The Meyerhold Centreal Theatre in Russia will present „One Day We Will All Be Happy” by Yekaterina Vasilieva, directed by Veaceslav Cebotari. Based on a monologue between two actresses, Alexandra Kuzenkina and Anastasia Pronina, the show has one single character in the limelight, with the same text, same costumes, but two parts. The performance is staged in English and Russian.
Tami Dance Company, the company of choreographer Nirmod Freed, is Israel’s guest at Undecloud, and will stage „Control Freaks & More” performance centered on three characters: a woman-animal, a man-dog and a woman from dreams, all of them driven by the same devastating passion to conquer.
The Collectif Kahraba in Beirut, set up in 2007 by actor Eric Deniaud together several French and Lenabese actors, will stage the puppet show for adults, „Voix dans le Noir”. The show, divided into eight scenes, took part in various festivals in Liban and France, but was also presented in Italy, Russia and Poland.
„Philoctetes” by famous Greek poet Yannis Ritsos (memebr of the Resistance Movement in WWII) comes from Greece directed by Sissy Papathanassiou (Analogio Theatre). The script talks about the relation between past and present, about the need of reconciliation, about the political corrupt system and the power games and about spiritual alienation. It is in fact a review over current Greece.
UNDERCLOUD is under the aegis of the „Europe for Festivals. Festivals for Europe” European programme and has the Israeli Embassy to Romania as institutional partner.
