Two Romanians, in the finals of Sony World Photography 2015
Romanian photographers Cosmin Bumbut and Daniel Necula are among the finalists of the Sony World Photography Awards 2015, one of the greatest photography competitions in the world.
Cosmin Bumbut was nominated among the finalists in the professional category, for his “Architecture” collection comprising some overwhelming pictures captured in the cells of 35 Romanian prisons. Daniel Necula shined in the “Open” category, with a daring black&white picture representing a woman riding a bicycle, Mediafax informs.
The competition’s prizes consist in money and Sony digital photo equipment. Those ten winners in the “Open” category are to be announced on March 31, while the 13 winners of the category dedicated to professional photographers will be announced on April 23, during an awarding ceremony due in London.
The photos shot by the two Romanian finalists will also go on display at the 2015 Sony World Photography exhibition, hosted by Somerset House in London, during April 24-May 10.
This year edition of the prestigious photo contest gathered the most increased number of contenders in its eight-year history. The finalists have been chosen out of a record number of registered persons, 173,444 coming from 171 countries, which represented a 24 percent rise compared to last year’s edition.
