Creators of the awarded international animation films are coming to Bucharest for the 14th edition running from October 4 to October 13.
The absolute surprise of this edition will be the meeting with the Canadian artist Robert Valley, known for Pear Cider and Cigarettes, nominated for Oscars in 2017, but also famous for sci-fi Zima Blue, included in the Netflix Love Death and Robots anthology.
He is to meet the Romanian audience within the masterclass From Comics to Animation, held on October 11, at 5 p.m., when the artist will recount about what is inspiring him and also about his collaborations with Gorillaz and Metallica. His films will be screened at Eforie Cinemateca on the same day, as of 18:30hrs.
The nonconformist director and animator Paul Bush, renowned for his movies that are dissolving all borders between animation, fiction and documentary. A pioneer of the live action elements, the British artist will meet the movie lovers in Bucharest on October 12, at 13:00hrs within the masterclass Falling in love with the frame. The Albatross (1998), While Darwin Sleeps (2004), The Five Minute Museum (2015) and other of his short films will be screened at Elvire Popesco Cinema, as of 5 p.m.
The director of Ars Electronica festival Jürgen Hagler will bring to Bucharest a sample of the futuristic atmosphere of this festival. He will recount about Ars Electronica on October 9, as of 5 p.m. at AWE.
The French production company Papy 3D will also be present in Romania. One of its founders, producer Richard Van Den Boom is invited in the jury of the international short film and student film sections. Sarah Van Den Boom, with her latest short film Raymonde ou l’évasion verticale, nominated at César Awards, is also coming to Animest, speaking on October 9, at 15:30.
Estonia will be the invited guest country at this year edition of Animest, with representatives such as Janno Põldma, with his Lotte – thrilogy and Captain Morten and the Spider Queen, the latest film by Kaspar Jancis.
Illustrator and director Priit Pärn and his wife, Olga Pärn will perform a masterclass on October 10, at 5 p.m.
The new wave of young Estonian artists will be represented by 38-year-old Chintis Lundgren, already nominated at famous festivals like Annecy, Sundance, Toronto and Clermont-Ferrand. She will present her selection of films The Absinthe Rabbits of Chintis Lundgren, at AWE on October 9, 7 p.m.
