World first: Pascal Bruckner launches his first play at Undercloud 2016

The ninth edition of the UNDERCLOUD International Independent Theatre Festival held in Bucharest, Romania (August 22-31) comes along with a rich theatre offer, bringing over 40 Romanian and foreign performances and several prestigious Romanian and international guests such as French writer Pascal Bruckner, Romanian-born playwright Matei Visniec and director Mihai Măniuțiu.

The famous French writer Pascal Bruckner will launch, as a world first, his first theatre play, written this year. Entitled „Christmas at the palace”, the play is a political situational comedy hinting at contemporary France, but whose implications are valid in any context, including in Romania nowadays. The play will be transposed by Chris Simion in a lecture-performance, rejoining a prestigious cast consisting in Pascal Bruckner, Marian Râlea, Răzvan Vasilescu, Dana Dogaru, George Ivașcu and Vlad Logigan.

Pascal Bruckner, the famous author of the”Divine Child” or „Lunes de Fiel” is the honorary president of the D’AYA Company since 1999, when Chris Simion set up the most important independent theatre movement in Romania.

UNDERCLOUD 2016 will also focus on DADA, on the occasion of the famous movement’s centenary. The special guest of this focus section is the Romanian-born French playwright Matei Vișniec, who will be represented by four stagings in Romania and abroad after his plays. Chris Simion will make a lecture-performance after „Dada Cabaret”, director Alexandru Nagy presents the show „The pocket with bread”, Eric Deniaud, from the Collectif Kahraba theatre company (France/Lebanon), presents the puppet show for adults „Voix dans le noir, while „Eugen Ionescu” Theatre from R.of Moldova presents the „Communism History retld for mental patients”.
