Irina Begu, 35th WTA, has qualified on Thursday to the quarter-finals of the tournament in Rome, after defeating 6-1, 6-4 Daria Kasatkina (Russia), 33rd WTA.
Begu secured a cheque of EUR 49,680 and 190 WTA points and in the next round she will face the winner between Britain’s Johanna Konta and Japanese Misaki Doi.
Irina Begu was to plat on Thursday in the doubles in pair with Monica Niculescu against Yung-Jan Chan (Taiwan)/Anna-Lena Groenefeld (Germany).
Irina Begu defeated Victoria Azarenka (6th WTA) on Wednesday, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the WTA tournament in Rome, with total prizes of USD 2,599,.610.
Begu (25 years, 35th WTA) managed seven aces in the match, with excellent percentages points made with the first service (80%) and the second service (40%).
It was a first win for Irina Begu against Azarenka (fourth favourite in Rome) in six direct matches, Romanian media report.
