Bianca Andreescu, fresh US Open champion, has thanked her Romanian fans for their support.
Born in Canada, but to Romanian parents, Bianca Andreescu has granted an interview to the Romanian TV of NY.
“Thank you, to all the people in Romania. Thank you for supporting me, not only here at US Open, but always. Thanks very much,” said Andreea in message delivered in Romanian.
During the press conference after the huge victory against Serena Williams, the 19yo Bianca confessed she had been very nervous before the US Open final.
“It is not the first time I had reviewed this match. It is crazy,” said Bianca while starting to cry. She had been asked how she felt when re-watching the final.
Bianca also said she had dreamed of this moment for long and that she was hoping to be at this level, every day of her life.
“The fact it came true is incredible”, she added.
In another interview to CNN, Bianca recounted how she had been gearing up to make a career in tennis and to be a champion, namely she would write her name and the prize money for winning the US Open on a mock-up check. The check thus represented a motivation, driving a hope that one day she would win the Grand Slam title.
