Airbnb has announced that the number of the Romanians who booked accommodation in London during the Wimbledon tournament, July 2-15, has almost doubled compared to last year, after Simona Halep won Roland Garros French Open.

Overall, about 80,000 bookings worldwide have been made on airbnb.com for the period when the third grand slam of the year takes place. Compared to 2017, the highest increase comes from Romania (97%), then from the Czech Republic (44%) and UK (29%).

The highest decline is reported by Serbia (down by 30%), with a possible explanation being that former ATP leader Novak Djokovic’s lack of condition lately.

The average accommodation price per night on Airbnb is GBP 100 (around EUR 113), during the most-expected tennis  competition.

Last year, Simona Halep reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, just like in 2016. She didn’t manage to reach the semi-finals, after Johanna Konta defeated her. Halep reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon though in 2014.
